why the eye?
The eyes are known to act as an additional entry point for COVID-19 infections (Davis et al., 2022). Our technology detects the presence of ocular viral manifestations such as redness, swelling, dryness, and discharge, separate from other known viral related eye symptoms including pain, itchiness, and blurry vision.
In addition to these signature manifestations of inflammation and conjunctivitis, there are also less visible features connected to the COVID-19 virus detectable even when clinical symptoms are not present (Binotti et al., 2022).
The AiZtech iSelfie Prescreen app is a tool intended to educate users about the possible risk of having contracted COVID-19 and assist users in obtaining tests and/or confirming treatment eligibility. The iSelfie Prescreen App assesses the potential risk of COVID-19 for individuals who believe they were exposed to COVID-19 by evaluating symptoms (if applicable) and an eye scan designed to detect changes that may be associated with viral infections. The app does not provide a diagnosis and is not intended to replace CDC-recommended testing (i.e. antigen test, PCR test) or consultation with a healthcare provider.
